Terms & Conditions of Service

General Terms

(The term 'You' refers to the customer or their representative. The term 'I' and 'me' refers to John P. Dickinson – ICT Consultant.)

Computer Support

Fixed fee services

The fixed fee services are only available within the main operational area of the business. Fixed fee services provided outside this area will be charged at an hourly rate, arranged at time of booking.

Free callout

The free callout is only available as part of a purchased service. If a service is not purchased a standard callout fee of £10 applies.

Exceptions

If the requested service falls under the No Fix, No Fee conditions, then a callout fee is not charged.

No Fix, No Fee Policy

The No Fix, No Fee policy means that if I do not possess the necessary technical knowledge or ability to resolve the problem or effect the repair, then no charge is made.

This no fix, no fee policy is only available with local computer repair services.

Exceptions
  1. If I am able to resolve the problem or effect the repair, but I am prevented from doing so by you requesting that I do not proceed with the work, you (the customer) is liable to pay:

    • the whole fee for the requested fixed fee service, or
    • the hourly rate for the service up to that point for services without a fixed fee.
  2. If I can't fix the problem due to external dependencies such as faulty equipment or no internet service by BT or any Internet Service Provider, you (the customer) is liable to pay:

    • the whole fee for the requested fixed fee service, or
    • the hourly rate for the service up to that point for services without a fixed fee.
  3. If I provide a clear and precise diagnosis of a failed component and you decide not to proceed with the replacement of the component, you (the customer) is liable to pay:

    • the whole fee for the requested fixed fee service, or
    • the hourly rate for the service up to that point for services without a fixed fee.
  4. If I am able to resolve the problem or effect the repair, but I am prevented from doing so because you do not possess the required software CD-Rom, Product Key, manual or guide then you (the customer) is liable to pay:

    • the whole fee for the requested fixed fee service, or
    • the hourly rate for the service up to that point for services without a fixed fee.
Hardware Guarantee

All hardware items I supply come with a one-year guarantee which covers any defective parts or compatibility issues. Replacement of defective part(s) will be installed free of charge.

As I do not hold any items in stock, returns may take a couple of weeks to complete – with items being returned either to my supplier or the manufacturer.

If you supply an incompatible component you will be charged for the service requested and that service will end.

You will not be charged for items I purchase which are incompatible with your computer, unless you request to keep them.

If the part I supply or install is not defective, but has become faulty due to changed in software or configuration then a fee will be charged for a hardware repair service.

Exceptions
  1. Warranty does not cover issues that arise from use or misuse, such as customer-installed software or hardware compatibility issues, nor instability or data/hardware loss due to viruses.
  2. I do not guarantee any parts supplied bu you (the customer). Should a part supplied by you (the customer) be found to be defective, I will not be liable for replacing the part unless it can be shown that I caused the damage.
Computer Security

The security services provide the installation and configuration of antivirus, anti-spyware, and firewall software.

There are no guarantees that with this software your computer will be wholey protected. It is essential that you keep all security software up-to-date, and running at all times.

As the computer security services are only for the installation of security software, I will not be liable for any loss or damage which may occurr from their use.

Payment

If the original problem reported by the customer is fixed by me, then you (the customer) is liable to pay:

All work must be paid for at the end of each visit.

I accept payment by cash or cheque.

The standard hourly charge for my services is £20 per hour. Any incomplete/part hour will be charged as a complete hour for each visit.
